Stewards of Children

1 out of 10 children will be sexually abused before they turn 18. Chances are, someone you know has been impacted. Research shows that people who are sexually violated as children are far more likely to experience psychological problems often lasting into adulthood, including post-traumatic stress syndrome, depression, suicide, substance abuse, teen pregnancy, school dropout and relationship problems.

Learning the facts about childhood sexual abuse helps prevent it. Talking about it helps prevent it. Getting involved helps prevent it. The truth is, if childhood sexual abuse can be prevented, it can be stopped.

Become that adult that is responsible for the safety of children. Adults should be taking proactive steps to protect children from sexual abuse. It is unrealistic to think that a child should be responsible for fending off sexual advances by an adult. For more information regarding program, please visit

Approximately 1,000 Dawson County adults have participated in Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children training. This has been made possible through community partners such as the Department of Juvenile Justice, Dawson County Schools and No One Alone’s facilitation of the program.

Our current goal is to train 1,795 adults, 10% of our adult population.

Please join other adults in our community who are being proactive in providing better protection of our children.
