As the countdown to Christmas begins, Dawson County Family Connection is once again holding its “Reverse Advent Calendar” drive, allowing local participants the chance to give back to others each day between now and Christmas.
According to information provided by Family Connection, while other advent calendars are designed so that participants receive a treat each day from Dec. 1 to Christmas, the Reverse Advent Calendar allows participants to help meet a different need for others each day.
From Dec. 1 leading up to Christmas, Family Connection’s Reverse Advent Calendar lists out 24 different items that are needed to help families in need in Dawson County prepare for cold weather months. The items range from blankets and warm clothes to tents and sleeping bags, and community members are encouraged to participate by donating as few or as many of the listed items as they want to.
Those wanting to participate in the Reverse Advent Calendar drive can start a collection at their office or church, drop items off at the Family Connection office, or make a tax-deductible monetary contribution. Participants also have the option to order items directly from Family Connection’s Amazon wishlist or Walmart gift registry, which will be delivered straight to the Family Connection office.
