On April 11, ninth graders at Dawson County Junior High School got to experience firsthand how their choices can lead to consequences during Dawson County Family Connection’s annual “Teen Maze” event.

During the event, each student was given a booklet containing different scenarios to follow through their “life”. Some of the choices in the different scenarios were good, like graduating high school, going to college and entering the workforce, but other scenarios aimed at showing how bad choices like drugs, alcohol and going to jail can lead to bad and potentially life-altering consequences.

The event also included a crash simulation with help from Dawson County police and fire and EMS personnel, reminding the students not to drink, text or do anything else that could impair them while driving.

Teen Maze is put on each year by Dawson County Family Connection with the help of volunteers from other agencies and nonprofits across the county. This year’s event was made possible through the help of nearly 90 volunteers, and throughout the day, around 290 ninth graders experienced the event.

Family Connection Coordinator Rebecca Bliss emphasized her gratitude for the volunteers and agencies that helped make this year’s Teen Maze a success, thanking each of the individuals who gave up their time to help with the event.
